2009 Recap and Off Season is Over

The "Off Season" is officially over.  There are 33 days until the Boulevard Road Race and structured training has begun again.  2009 has been the biggest change in my cycling since 1989 in that I rode more miles than any other year since 1980, competed successfully in more races than I've done in one year since 1980, and I'm chomping at the bit, so to speak, to begin again.  Here are the stats:

Total miles for 2009: 12,994
Total miles for December: 971
Average pulse for 2009: 54
Average pulse for December: 51
Average weight for 2009: 149.8
Average weight for December: 150.0
Total hiking miles for December: 30.2
Total hiking miles for 2009: 122
Number of (winterized) sunbonnets seen in December: 12
Total lifetime miles: 404, 994 ...give or take.

Sunday's stats:
Miles: 60, with light hill intervals and tight downhill cornering practice
Number of (winterized) sunbonnets out walking: 4
Number of Freds who tried to race me: 1 (out of a pack of over 30 I passed while riding)
Number of seconds it took to drop him: less than 30
Temperature: an amazing 51 F!
Pulse: 46
Weight: 149

  1. pulse 46?
either the rest of the off season has really paid off, or you're deep into hibernation!
either way, this year looks to be epic.

  2. Chomp at that bit, Badger! It's all right there in front of you. Boulevard and Callville Bay, Tortilla Flats, Superior and Skull Valley, Bakersfield and San Luis Rey. You've earned your chops. Now go kick some butt. Who is it you plan to sneak up on in 2010 and 2011? Who you gonna "take"?

WV - byrasms. Is embrocation effective against that?

  3. Limes - byrasms is the colloquial form of Brrr! with a strong shudder, or spasm from the cold. So yes, a good embrocation will forstall the byrasm.
SOMH - not hibernation for sure. Epic is how one would describe the Boulevard Road Race!

  4. I knew that about byrasms. I wasn't sure whether you did. So use your embrocation. Do you recall the Boulevard Battle Cry? Is it emblazoned on your cycling psyche?

WV - fusfems. THOSE would be the chiquitas in their bonnets.
