By now I'd have already posted an August recap, but I've been so slammed at work I can barely see straight. So given that it's already half way through September, it would make better sense to report on what's happened, and more importantly, what foolishness I've gotten myself into. Although I fear this race, not from fear of the unknown, but rather, the known unknown (as our once intrepid Secretary of Defense might put it). I signed up and paid the money to enter the Everest Challenge, even though I'm in questionable condition and have various infirmities. I'm frightened that I have bitten off more than I can chew, and instead of chewing it, it will chew me. But that's the adventure. I don't know how it will turn out, and neither does it. So, the weekend after this coming I'll line up at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday the 24th of September and enter into a world of hurt.
So that's the foolishness I've gotten myself into. As for the past, well, you already know about the Rist Canyon Road Race.
I rode my usual Saturday ride up the Scenic Loop and out to Mt. Potosi for approximately 6,000' of climbing. It was the first day it felt like fall was coming to Las Vegas! The weather was beautiful. There were hundreds of cyclists out enjoying the weather.
Most popular "pro" team kit: Radio Shack
Second most popular "pro" team kit: LiquiGas
Third was Lampre
Hmm, there's no size requirements to wear these things. It's weird to see hugely fat men wearing pro kit. I'm just sayin'...

"...hugely fat men wearing pro kit."
ReplyDeletebut don't they give a great draft while you're waiting for traffic to clear so you can pass them?...
I know there's MAMIL (middle age men in lycra) whats the acronym for fat guys in lycra?;)
ReplyDeleteGood music.
ReplyDeleteBeach Bum - yes, and they sound even better when all together as a group in the studio. She's an amazing talent.
ReplyDeleteWD, Richard - what can I say? As astounding as some of them are shape wise, I have to give them credit for being out there on a bike. But the ludicrousness of their appearance just can't go by without comment! ;-)
